Introducing HAROSA-CYTED

The HAROSA Knowledge Community (HAROSA KC) is an international network of research groups which main goal is to promote and develop collaborative e-research on new Hybrid Algorithms for solving Realistic rOuting, Scheduling and system reliability/Availability problems.


The HAROSA KC is partially financed and supported by the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3) of the Open University of Catalonia (UOC), and it is coordinated by the Distributed, Parallel and Collaborative Systems (DPCS) research group.


In recent years, DPCS members have been collaborating online with researchers from other national and international universities and research centers. One of the emergent research areas that this collaboration has focused on is the development of new hybrid algorithms and software applications aimed at solving complex realistic challenges such us those associated with routing, scheduling or reliability/availability problems. Most of these problems are considered to be NP-hard, which means that an efficient approach can be built only by combining knowledge from different areas such as Computer Science, Operations Research and Applied Mathematics. At the same time, these problems represent important challenges for strategic sectors in any developed country such as industry and services, which explains the relevance of the proposed topics to current international research.

The HAROSA KC was born in 2009 and it is currently constituted by more than a dozen research groups, including those in countries such as Spain, USA, France, Argentina, Colombia or Brasil.
